Ruins of Tamba Sasayama Castle

First, we recommend a route that starts from the ruins of Tamba Sasayama Castle and takes you around the castle town. Tambasasasayama Castle was built in Keicho 4 by order of Ieyasu Tokugawa for the purpose of attacking Osaka Castle. The castle was built without a castle tower, but with a Daishoin and Ninomaru Palace built on stone walls, which were destroyed by fire in 1934. The current Daishoin was reconstructed in 2000 and is an excellent replica of the original structure.

In the upper room of the main drawing room, a folding screen painting by a painter of the Kano school is used to represent the atmosphere of the time. The magnificent stone walls and moat remain as they were in the past, and during the cherry blossom season, the pale pink scenery makes the ruins of the castle look retro and cute.
