Shirakawa-go Gassho-Zukuri Village

Shirakawa-go Gassho-Zukuri Village, a World Heritage Site, features houses with triangular roofs filled with the wisdom of the Gosetsu region. It is a precious sightseeing spot where people actually still live and where you can see rural culture in action.
It is a heavy snowfall area that was once considered an unexplored region, and there is a lot of snow in the winter. The area is a recommended sightseeing spot because it offers a view of life in all four seasons, and the scenery is also spectacular.

Triangular roof to prevent snow from piling up on the roof.

In midwinter, snow continues to fall forever, but the triangular roof is daringly designed to allow the snow to fall naturally. In February, snow accumulates up to 170 cm, and in the past, when it snowed, the houses were isolated from the surrounding area. The Gassho-zukuri houses, nature, and hot spring facilities make this a must-see destination when touring Gifu.
