Tomonoura, located in Fukuyama City, is a historic port town that was the first in Japan to be designated a national park, and is also famous as the setting for Ponyo on the Cliff "" by that director Hayao Miyazaki.

In Tomonoura, you can see streets and everlasting lights that have remained unchanged since the Edo period. The nostalgia and melancholy of the old days remain, and you can feel a mysterious power from the whole town. Enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of this beautiful and historic port town.

Japan

Senraneshima Island, which can be reached by boat from Tomonoura Port in about five minutes, is also known as one of the best power spots in Hiroshima. The island retains such natural beauty that legend has it that it was named Sennareshu-jima because it was said to be so beautiful that hermits would get drunk on it.

On the island, you will see 5-color rocks, "consisting of blue, red, yellow, white, and black rocks "that continue along the coast, which is said to be the only place in Japan where you can see this extremely rare spot. There is also a mountain path reminiscent of Princess Mononoke, a dragon god bridge where wishes are said to come true, and an Edo-style bath where visitors can experience detoxification. This is a place where you can feel the mystical energies of nature, and where you will surely be healed both physically and mentally.

Itsukushima Shrine's Tenjinsha Shrine also enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the famous god of learning, and is a good place to pray for success in entrance examinations. Incidentally, the torii gate standing on the sea seen from the main shrine of Itsukushima Shrine is a spectacular sight, so be sure to take note of it when you visit Itsukushima Shrine.

Mt Yayasan

Yayama is a 535ⅿ-high mountain located on Miyajima Island, and can be climbed from the back side of Itsukushima Shrine. The summit can be reached while admiring the natural beauty and ruins along the mountain path. The view from the top of Mt. Yayasan is spectacular, and is truly one of the three most scenic spots in Japan.

A little off the summit, there is also a power spot called the Shrine in the Sky, which you should visit if you can. For those who have difficulty climbing the mountain, you can also take the ropeway to the summit. Another attraction of Miyajima is that you can also enjoy viewing the autumn leaves in the fall.

Daisho-in Temple

About a 20-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine is Daisho-in Temple, the main temple of the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism, and is said to be the oldest temple on Miyajima, founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi). There are a number of places where you can receive a lot of benefits and power, such as Gandaiji-sama, Henshokudo Cave, and Five Hundred Arhat Statues, so this is definitely a place you should keep in mind when you aim to visit power spots.

In particular, the Henshogu, located in the cave of the Daishido, is a spectacular sight and is said to be as beneficial as a pilgrimage to any of the 88 temples on Shikoku.
