Food stalls on Kuramoto Street

One of the most popular night spots in Kure is probably the food stall located at "Red Lantern Street ". These stalls have been loved by Kure citizens for many years, but many people come here as tourists, and celebrities also sometimes come here as guests. Therefore, on weekends, all the stalls are crowded with many people.

Each stall sells different kinds of food, from ramen, oden, and pig's feet to teppanyaki, creative cuisine, and more. It may be difficult to decide which stall to enter, but you should let your inspiration guide you. Regardless of which stall you choose, you will be able to enjoy the richly flavored food and intoxicated by the retro atmosphere that only a food stall can provide.

Since the tables are mainly at the counter, you may get to know your neighbors as well. The stalls are open relatively late into the night, and you can enjoy a fun evening while experiencing firsthand the unique culture of Kure.

Kurahashi Island (esp. Kurahashi Island, but also Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands)

Kurahashi Island, which is located further on after crossing the Ondo Ohashi Bridge from Kure by car, is a little-known spot, but it is actually a tourist destination overflowing with charm. There are hot springs that offer healing in the rich nature of the Seto Inland Sea, fashionable seaside cafes, Katsurahama Beach, Kurahashi Volcano, and various other spots that make for an enjoyable island trip.

Located along the coast in Kurahashi, Cafe Slow is a cozy and stylish spot where you can relax and enjoy excellent food, cakes, waffles, homemade puddings, drinks, and other delicacies made with plenty of local ingredients. There is even a kid's room, complete with a kids' menu, so you can bring your little ones along with you with peace of mind.

There is also a BBQ hut next to the cafe, which can be used for barbecuing in the summer and as an oyster shack in the winter. It also has an aspect of a beach house in the summer. Slow Café is a store that is not confined to the concept of a café or restaurant, but always offers exciting activities.

Diving Pro Shop NAGI in Kurahashi is located at "Enjoy the sea! Enjoy the nature! "is the slogan of Diving Pro Shop NAGI in Kurahashi, which is attracting a lot of attention as a dive store where you can experience diving. Some people may think that diving is a bit too much for them, but even beginners can feel free to participate in the "experience diving course ". Instructors will teach you gently and carefully, and you can experience diving at your own pace.

In addition to diving, there is also the "SUP experience "where you can stand and move freely on the sea, and the "snorkeling course "for children, offering a new and exciting experience in the calm waters of Kurahashi.

Yamato Museum

The "YAMATO MUSEUM ", located near Kure Station, is a symbolic spot of Kure and a place you should visit at least once. Kure had a prosperous time as a naval arsenal town during the war, and it is well known that the battleship "Yamato ", which is considered the culmination of the cutting-edge technology of that time, was built in Kure. The Yamato Museum exhibits many valuable materials from that time, allowing visitors to experience firsthand the history of Kure and the progress of science and technology.

You can see the elaborately reproduced model of the huge battleship "Yamato ", as well as actual documents such as "Zero fighter Type 62 "and suicide attack weapon "Kaiten ", which made its name during the Pacific War, making it a valuable museum where you can learn about the tragedy of war and the preciousness of peace.

It is also a great place to enjoy with curious children, as it has a unique exhibition room where you can actually experience the principles of ship-related science and technology, and workshops and science shows are also held.

"The Tetsu no Kujira-kan ", located right next to the Yamato Museum, also welcomes visitors as a symbol of Kure, along with the Yamato Museum. The Tetsu no Kujira-kan is the first museum in Japan to exhibit an actual giant submarine, which is approximately 76 meters long and is truly a sight to behold. Visitors can also experience a simulated submarine environment and life underwater, making this museum a must-see for submarine lovers.

From the Kure Chuo Pier near the Yamato Museum, you can take a cruising trip to view the ships. The view of the ships is especially spectacular on the "Evening Kure Cruise ", which sails at sunset. This is a popular tour for adults and children alike, as you can see the submarines and destroyers of the Maritime Self-Defense Force and other powerful vessels up close while listening to the realistic commentary by a former Self-Defense Force officer.

Nakadori Shopping Street

Nakadori Shopping Street, also known as "Brick Street ", is a famous street in the center of Kure, where you can enjoy all the Kure specialties such as Mr. Navy Curry and Bikkuri Manju. There are also many tasteful izakayas (Japanese-style pubs), making it a hot spot for both daytime and nighttime visits.

Fukuzumi in Kure is a store with a rich history, founded in 1907, and is famous for Kure's specialty "fry cake ". The fry cake is a deep-fried manju with an irresistible texture. The outside is crispy, but the inside is soft and filled with a moderately sweet bean paste. Fukuzumi's predecessor trained in the U.S., Shanghai, and other places, and also gained experience at the Fujiya confectionery, and after returning to Kure, it is said that the fried cake was born as a result of repeated trial and error. Filled with history and tradition, Fukuju's fried cake is an absolute must-try.

Iseya in Kure is another long-established restaurant with a history of more than 100 years that has inherited the taste of the Navy. While you can enjoy Kure's specialties such as the Navy's meat and potatoes and the Navy's curry, the highlight of the menu is the special Katsu-don with demi-glace sauce "ISEYA's special Katsu-don ". The beef cutlet served on top of a bowl of rice topped with a rich demi-glace sauce makes it a foul taste. It is a dish that has been a favorite of Kure people for many years and you will regret if you do not try it at least once.

呉冷麺麺麺麺

Wu Cold Noodle ", which is a famous specialty of Wu City ", is also one of the must-try gourmet foods when you visit Wu. There are several restaurants where you can eat Kure Cold Noodle, among which "Chin Lai Heen "and "Wu Long "reign as the two giants, and we will introduce the features of each of them.

Chinraiken is located on the main street of Kure, and is said to be the birthplace of Kure cold noodles. As a long-established restaurant where you can taste the original Kure cold noodles, there is always a long line of customers at lunch time.

Cold noodles are usually associated with "chilled Chinese noodles ", but Kure cold noodles do not have the sweet and sour taste of chilled Chinese noodles, but rather the richness of chicken broth combined with an exquisite combination of sour and spicy flavors. Two kinds of vinegar are always available at the table, so you can enjoy a change of taste by adding a splash of vinegar.

Once you try it, you'll be hooked and want to go back again and again, so it's worth waiting in line to try it.

Goryu is another very popular Kure cold noodle restaurant that is well known in Kure. Although it is a little far from Kure Station, this restaurant is also famous for the endless lines that form around lunchtime.

Wu Long's cold noodles have a sweeter broth than Chin Lai Kuan's, and the addition of a little spicy vinegar as an accent is exquisite. Wu Long's cold noodles with wontons are also very popular, and many people say that slurping the noodles with the chewy wontons is an irresistible moment.

Wu Long is only open during lunch hours and is said to close its business as soon as it runs out of ingredients, so getting there early is recommended.

Arrayed butterflyfish (Chaetodon alewifei)

Alley Karasu Kojima is a park located along Kure Bay, and has gained popularity as the only spot in Japan where visitors can see submarines up close. The Kure Bay is home to the Kure base of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, where many submarines and destroyers are berthed. The sight of the powerful submarines lined up in a row is breathtaking, and is a hot spot unique to Kure.

There is a coffee shop called "Harbor Town Coffee Shop "near Alley Karasujima, and this store is one of the spots I would like to recommend. You can eat "Mr. Navy's Curry "which has a rich flavor and is filled with tender beef tendon, and you can also enjoy original coffee and sweets while looking at the submarine.
