Mimurotoji
Among the hydrangea spots in Kyoto, one in particular that should not be missed is "Mimuroto-ji Temple in Uji City ".
This temple, which is said to have been built at the behest of Emperor Konin, is known as one of Kyoto's most famous flower viewing spots.
Visitors to Mimuroto-ji can enjoy seasonal flowers such as cherry blossoms, azaleas, and shumeigiku, but the hydrangea is especially popular.
The hydrangea garden at "Yorakuen ", which spreads out on the right side of the temple gate, is open from June to July every year, with 20,000 hydrangeas of about 50 varieties at their best.
There are many varieties of hydrangeas that can be seen at Mimuroto-ji Temple, including Western hydrangea, forehead hydrangea, oak leaf hydrangea, and Shichidanka, which is said to be a mysterious hydrangea.
The colorful hydrangeas spreading out before your eyes are sure to enchant you. On Saturdays and Sundays, the hydrangea garden is illuminated, creating a fantastic sight.
Some of the hydrangeas found at Mimuroto-ji Temple are romantic and heart-shaped.
This one was discovered by chance by a vendor who comes in and out of the area, and its popularity was quickly ignited when it appeared in the newspaper.
It is said that finding one will bring you luck in love, so be sure to check out the heart-shaped hydrangea when you visit Mimuroto-ji Temple.
Another thing not to be missed at Mimuroto-ji Temple during this season is the seasonal red seal.
The red seals, available only during the hydrangea season, are all bright and lovely, and many people take pictures with the hydrangeas on the temple grounds, as the designs look great on social media.
Red seals will be closed as soon as they are gone, so it is recommended to go early if you want to get one.
Incidentally, hydrangeas turn down when the sun shines, so it is best to go early in the morning to see the hydrangeas at Mimuroto-ji Temple.
If you visit Uji during the rainy season, why not stop by Mimuroto-ji Temple early in the day?

Yanggoksa Temple
If you want to go to a photogenic hydrangea spot, the best place to go is "Yanggokokuji Temple in Nagaokakyo City ".
Hana-temizu has become a common sight at temples all over Japan, and this is said to be the birthplace of hana-temizu.
The reason why Yanggoksa Temple started to have flowers floating in the tezumisha and tezumibachi was because of the change of chief priests a few years ago. "The idea was to make the temple a sacred place where people can feel the history and the four seasons, and to bring peace of mind through the five senses along with blessings in this age of anxiety. "
The hana-tezui changes regularly with the seasons, and during the rainy season, you can see artistic hydrangea flower hand-watering. There are several of them on the temple grounds, so be sure to visit each one and compare them with each other.
Hanatemizu is not the only spot where you can see photogenic hydrangeas.
The heart bench, located behind the inner sanctuary and uphill from the side of the Amida Hall, has become one of the most popular photogenic spots in recent years.
The seasonal flowers seen through the heart-shaped holes in the backrests are sure to be a hit on social media! This is a must-see along with the hanatamizu.
In addition, there are many other hydrangea spots that can only be seen during this season at Yanggok-ji, such as the Hydrangea Corridor that runs from the Shoin to the Okunoin Temple and the Hydrangea Path that runs from the Main Hall to the Okunoin Temple!
Every year in June, various events are held under the title of "" , which is called the "Yanagisawa Shrine Hydrangea Week." When you visit, be sure to check out the information on red seals, lighting up, etc.

Rock Boat Temple
Located in Kizugawa City on the border of Kyoto and Nara prefectures, "Iwafuneji Temple "is a popular spot to enjoy the combination of the three-story pagoda and hydrangeas.
The hydrangea was first planted around 1937 by the previous head priest in an effort to make the precincts of the temple beautiful again after it had fallen into disrepair.
Currently, about 5,000 hydrangeas of 30 varieties, including Western hydrangeas and mountain hydrangeas, are in full bloom on the grounds during the season.
The hydrangeas at Iwafuneji Temple are dense and extremely gorgeous! The collaboration between the fuzzy hydrangeas and the three-story pagoda is breathtaking.
Aji-ike Pond is a particularly popular photo spot, and when it is at its best, many people come to take pictures of the three-story pagoda over the hydrangea.
Like other hydrangea spots, they bloom from early June to early July each year, but because Iwafuneji Temple is located at a slightly higher elevation, they are at their best about a week later than the hydrangea spots on the plains.
Also, from summer to early fall, you can see tama-hydrangea, which are spherical buds that break off to form flowers.
You can check the official SNS of Iwafuneji Temple for information on the blooming of the flowers. The best spots to take beautiful pictures of hydrangea and the three-story pagoda, as well as flower watering can be found there, so be sure to check the day before or the day of your visit.

Fujimori Shrine
"Fujimori Shrine "is known as a shrine of luck, learning and horses, but it is actually one of the most popular hydrangea spots in Kyoto City.
There are two hydrangea gardens on the grounds, and from mid to late June, when they are at their best, approximately 3,500 hydrangea plants in various shades of red, blue, and purple bloom in a variety of colors.
Incidentally, Fujimori Shrine, now familiarly known as "the Shrine of Hydrangea ", was originally planned to create an iris garden, since it is considered the birthplace of the iris festival.
However, due to the nature of the soil, it was deemed difficult to grow irises, so the garden was changed to the hydrangea garden.
The hydrangea garden with its many different types of hydrangeas is of course a must-see, but Fujimori Shrine is also known for its hanatemizu (flower water) located near the first hydrangea garden.
The floral hand-watering basin covered with pastel-colored hydrangeas is so pretty that it grabs the hearts of all who see it and won't let go.
On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors can enjoy not only the hydrangea blossoms but also kemari (Japanese game of foot throwing), gagaku (ancient court music), and bugaku (traditional Japanese dancing) in front of the main hall of the temple.

At "Hakusan Hydrangea Garden ", which is located on the grounds of the temple, approximately 8,000 hydrangea plants, including Western hydrangea, forehead hydrangea, and mountain hydrangea, bloom as if they were covering the slopes of Nishiyama in Kyoto.
The best feature of the garden is the view of the city of Kyoto over the hydrangeas! The view from the observatory at the entrance of the hydrangea garden is breathtaking.
In addition, this hydrangea garden is sloped, so it is possible to look down on the hydrangeas from above or, conversely, look up at them from below. This is a recommended spot for those who wish to appreciate the beauty of hydrangeas from various angles.

Sanchiin
"Sanzenin "is "difficult to go out when the hydrangeas are at their best ""and you missed the season! "This is a good hydrangea spot for those who miss the season!
Perhaps because this area is located 3 to 5 degrees cooler than the center of Kyoto, the hydrangea season here is a little later than in other spots and can be seen until mid-July.
Although the hydrangea garden is not that large, it is filled with various varieties of hydrangeas such as small hydrangeas, mountain hydrangeas, forehead hydrangeas, and seven-tiered flowers.
As a spot where much untouched nature remains, visitors can relax and enjoy the beauty of hydrangeas in a quiet and solemn atmosphere.

This one is a 10-minute drive from Kyoto Station, and Kiyomizu Temple and Sanjusangendo are also nearby, so you can stop by and incorporate it into your standard sightseeing course.
Moreover, as a hydrangea spot, it is actually a hole-in-the-wall. There is a hydrangea garden behind Kondo Hall, which is open to the public free of charge, allowing visitors to view the beautiful hydrangeas at their leisure!
