Northern Culture Museum

The Museum of Northern Culture is a wealthy farmer's museum full of Niigata's traditions and art.
The former mansion of the Ito family, a large landowner in Echigo, has been preserved and opened to the public.
Visitors can appreciate the collections of the successive heads of the family and other works of art.

Its grand pavilion, built over a period of eight years, is a powerful beauty.
The vast 8,800 tsubo site includes the main building, a large hall, a tea ceremony room, and a storehouse.

The pond garden, created by the Echigo-Tsumari garden master Taiami Tanaka, is a seasonal garden with a circular path around a pond, which shows us the beauty of the seasons.
A garden with a large pond at its center, surrounded by small mountains, islets, bridges, and garden stones for viewing.

The garden has a large wisteria that spreads from a single tree, which blooms beautifully with a sweet fragrance from late April to early May.
Also, around November, the garden is decorated with beautiful autumn leaves, making the view impressive.
Each of the buildings is illuminated when it is at its best, and the depth and three-dimensionality of the buildings and nature look very impressive.
Other wonderful views include cherry blossoms in the spring, lotus in the summer, and snow in the winter.

There is also a teahouse called Sangakutei on the premises, as well as a cafeteria, a coffee shop, a store, and lodging facilities.

The Niigata City Niitsu Railway Museum is a museum that conveys the railroad culture of Niitsu, a town of railroads.
The museum opened in 1983 in a vacant building of the former Niigata Railway Hospital Niitsu Branch.

The history of Niitsu, which has long been known as an important intersection of the JR Shinetsu, Hetsu, and Ban-Etsu-Nishi lines, as well as the development of modern technology can be learned here.

Niitsu is such a railroad town that one out of every four people working there was once a railroad worker.
There are many materials that can only be found here, and they are very valuable.
