Nebuta Festival (Aomori)

Among the Nebuta festivals, the Aomori Nebuta Festival in Aomori City attracts the largest number of visitors.
The Nebuta Festival is held every year from August 2 to 7, and features a parade of doll-shaped lanterns created with story themes through Aomori City.
Not only the huge Nebuta, but also the powerful shouts of "rasserah, rasserah, rasserah rasserah "echoing through the city, and the parade of the haneto, jumping up and down as they parade through the city, are a sight to behold!
Not only locals, but also tourists visiting from outside the prefecture can freely participate as haneto.
Here are three recommended spots where you can enjoy the Aomori Nebuta Festival more.

Nebuta House Wa Rasse

If you want to see the Aomori Nebuta Festival, you will first want to thoroughly prepare yourself on the history and charm of Nebuta.
We recommend you to visit "Nebuta no Ie Wa Rasse "where you can learn about Nebuta in depth.
This is a cultural tourism exchange facility that preserves and exhibits many materials related to Nebuta, and opened in January 2011.
The landmark is a bright red louver screen hanging like a goodwill. Located a minute's walk from Aomori Station, it is a great spot for sightseeing.

On the first floor of the facility is the "Nebuta Hall "where four large Nebuta floats are on display and can be viewed any time of the year. Photography is allowed, so it is highly recommended for those who want to see the Nebuta up close.
The Nebuta on display are replaced every year after the festival, so this is your last chance to see the previous year's Nebuta during the festival period. If you are able to visit during the Nebuta Festival, this is definitely a place to stop by.
In addition, you can listen to Nebuta music and experience haneto at the Nebuta Hall. If you are attending the Nebuta Festival for the first time, why not visit the Nebuta Hall to learn about the festival in advance?

The second floor also houses the "Nebuta Museum ", where visitors can learn about the origins of the Aomori Nebuta Festival, past festivals, and changes in the subject matter.
The museum also has a "My Nebuta "corner where you can make your own Nebuta by operating a touch panel. Even children can easily make their own original Nebuta, so this is a great place for families to see Nebuta. We recommend that you visit the Nebuta Hall as well as the Nebuta Hall.

Nebuta no Kuni Takaku

There are many restaurants in Aomori City where you can taste Aomori's gourmet food, but we highly recommend "Nebuta no Kuni Takakyu "for those who want to enjoy Aomori's gourmet food while basking in the afterglow of the Nebuta Festival.
Here, live performances of Tsugaru shamisen and Nebuta music are held daily. Since these are audience-participation type events, the restaurant is filled with excitement! Perfect for those who want to dine in a lively atmosphere and get into the mood for a visit to Aomori.

Tsugaru shamisen and Nebuta musical performances are held around 7:00 p.m. each time.
The Nebuta operation starts at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., but the performance hours are extended during the festival, so you can visit after watching the Nebuta.
Make requests during the Tsugaru shamisen performance, or join the waitstaff in shouting "rassler "and enjoy an evening in Aomori!

One of the attractions of Nebuta no Kuni Takakyu is that you can enjoy local cuisine such as "Scallop Miso Kaibayaki "and "Strawberry stew "as well as dishes using local ingredients and local sake.
Aomori's gourmet food tasted while listening to live music is exceptional! Since it is located close to the Nebuta procession course, you can go there just to have a meal before the festival starts.
During festivals and major holidays, the restaurant is especially crowded with customers from outside the prefecture, so it is recommended to make reservations in advance before visiting.
It can be enjoyed not only by groups, but also by small groups or single people, so if you are in need of a place to eat, why not visit?

Nebuta Rasseland

If you are visiting Aomori during the Nebuta Festival, don't miss "Nebuta Russeland "!
Nebuta Russeland is a large tent temporarily set up every spring and summer in Aoi Umi Park, near Aomori Station, and is affectionately known as "Nebuta Hut "by the locals.
Here you can see all the Nebuta you want, free of charge! Since this is a workshop for the production of the Nebuta that will go into battle that year, basically you can only see the completed Nebuta, but if you are lucky, you may be able to see a Nebuta in the process of being made.

During the Nebuta Festival, you can see 22 large Nebuta floats going out at the same time. Of course, commemorative photos are allowed.
The Nebuta Festival is a must-see especially for those who visit on days other than the last day of the festival, as it has a different look from the Nebuta Festival, which is brilliantly lit up in the evening and at night.
This area overlooks the ocean and offers a pleasant sea breeze, making it a popular place for residents and tourists to relax.
After visiting Nebuta Russeland, be sure to explore the surrounding area as well.

Hirosaki Neputa Festival

"The Hirosaki Neputa Festival "takes place every year from August 1 to 7, with about 80 fan-shaped lanterns, called "fan neputas," parading through downtown Hirosaki with the Sangokushi and Suikoden stories as their themes.
Unlike the Aomori Nebuta Festival, in which anyone can freely participate as a haneto, the Hirosaki Neputa Festival is characterized by the fact that local residents play a leading role in the festival.
During the festival, local residents, both children and adults, parade through the streets to the tune of "Ya Ya Do ".
Here are some recommended spots to enjoy the Hirosaki Neputa Festival even more.

Tsugaru-han Neputa Village

Before visiting the Hirosaki Neputa Festival, you may want to stop by the cultural center "Tsugaru-han Neputa Village ", which is full of local attractions.
Here, visitors can see the giant Hirosaki Neputa, listen to a Tsugaru shamisen performance, watch traditional crafts being made, and experience a variety of other activities.
The 100-yen bus stop is nearby and within walking distance of Hirosaki Castle. After touring and experiencing the castle, visitors can enjoy shopping at the adjacent agricultural products direct sales shop and souvenir shop.

The biggest attraction is the giant 10 meter high Neputa in the tour zone "Hirosaki Neputa no Yakata (Hirosaki Neputa Pavilion) ". Visitors can walk around and see not only the front side but also the back side of the neputa.
There are also many interesting exhibits near the large neputa, including a model of the framework and a corner introducing the neputa artists who draw pictures of the neputa.
Compared to the nebuta facilities in Aomori and Goshogawara, the exhibits are more compact, but the staff will explain the history and characteristics of nebuta and demonstrate the musical performance with flutes and drums, so you can learn all about the attraction of nebuta.

The zone where goldfish neputas are displayed in a fan shape is a popular photo spot, and many people post their photos on SNS.
At this facility, visitors can not only watch a demonstration of goldfish neputa production, but can also actually paint the goldfish neputa.
When you visit the Hirosaki Neputa Festival, you should try making your own goldfish neputa as a memory of your trip.

Goshogawara Tate-Syobudo

Of all the Nebuta festivals held throughout the prefecture, the most memorable is "Goshogawara Tachineputa (Goshogawara Tachineputa) ".
Tachineputa is characterized by its overwhelming height! The largest Tachineputa is a whopping 23 meters high.
Compared to Aomori City and Hirosaki City, there are only 15 Nebuta floats in the festival, but you will definitely be amazed by the huge Nebuta floats, which are so large that they exceed the size of buildings.
By the way, Goshogawara Tachineputa's call is "Yatte Mare ". The festival is held every year from August 4 to 8.
Here are some recommendations for those who wish to see the Goshogawara Tachineputa.

Tachineputa no Yakata no Yakata

Among the Nebuta-related facilities, the most astonishing is "Tachineputa no Yakata ".
At this facility, which boasts an overwhelming height within the city, you can see the large Tachineputa that is actually used in the festival!
When the festival is held, a special door opens and a large Tachineputa is launched from here. The sheer scale is sure to impress.
In addition to the Tachineputa, the museum has an exhibition area where visitors can watch a video of the festival and compare the differences in Nebuta music from different regions.

The Tachineputa Museum exhibits three large Tachineputa dolls that are actually used in the festival.
One of them will be created at the museum's "Tachineputa factory "every year around the time of the festival, and then added to the Tachineputa exhibition room.
The museum has a stairwell from the first to the sixth floor, and visitors can view Tachineputa from various angles as they walk along the sloping walkway.
Looking up at the Tachineputa from the bottom is well worth seeing, but the Tachineputa from the side is even more powerful, so it is definitely worth seeing.
