The area around Tomioka Silk Mill is home to numerous delicious foods.
In this issue, we introduce 8 carefully selected gourmet eateries.
Please take a look.

Sweet Shop Kamakura Tomioka Silk Mill Mae Branch

Let's start with a sweet drink.
Head to Kamakura, a sweet shop with beautiful white walls right in front of the Tomioka Silk Mill.
There is a rest area inside the restaurant that can be used by takeout customers, so you can relax a bit.

"You can easily walk around with a takeout and drink the straw mochi drink ".
The cups with lids are very beautifully layered with drinks and sauces.
The mochi is submerged at the bottom, so please enjoy it while stirring it with a straw.
"What is it like to have strawbaked rice cake in a drink? "It is a wonder, but it is very tasty.
The texture is similar to tapioca, but softer and smoother.
Flavors include "Luxury Strawberry Milk ", "Luxury Strawberry Yogurt (Yasuda Yogurt) ", "Asakawaen Matcha Green Tea ", "Kamakura Original Blend Coffee Milk "and other seasonal products.
Choose from two sizes, S and Normal.
Even an S is quite drinkable, so we recommend that you check the capacity at the restaurant before ordering.

If you have time to spare, you may also enjoy eating warabimochi inside the restaurant.
The high-quality soybean flour is mixed with the chewy texture to create a great taste.
In addition, there are also hearty shaved ice and other items available during the summer months.
Warabimochi can also be purchased as souvenirs.

Kureup Kobo Clin. Tomioka Branch

This crepe shop features crepes made with dough richly enriched with Hokkaido wheat.
It is also located near the Tomioka Silk Mill.
What I would like to recommend here are the many menu items available only at the Tomioka store.

First up is "Silk Creap ", which is made with lots of fresh cream.
The lemon flavor is softly fragrant in the mouth, and it is a dish that can be eaten without feeling heavy.
The texture of the sticky, moist dough and smooth whipped cream is also excellent.
It is a dangerous crepe that you can't stop eating.

"Mulberry leaf kureup "is an oddity: a generous sprinkling of mulberry leaf powder from Gunma Prefecture.
In fact, Gunma Prefecture had a thriving sericulture industry even before the Tomioka Silk Mill was established.
Mulberry leaves are grown as fodder for silkworms, and mulberry fields could be seen here and there during the peak of the past.
Even though it is a silkworm meal, it is of course safe for humans to eat.
The lightly astringent taste is refreshing, somewhat similar to matcha.

And last but not least, I highly recommend "Yakimanjyu Kureup ".
The famous Gourmet of Gunma, Yaki-Manju, was turned into a crepe.
The sweet and sour miso sauce and whipped cream go together better than you can imagine, and you can't help but say "Oh...! "I can't help but say, "Oh...!
Two fluffy manju (more like bread) are placed on top of each other, making it a hearty and filling meal.

family which supports a temple

Located less than a 10-minute walk from the Tomioka Silk Mill is this place, KURASAN-YA.
In front of the store is a statue of a smiling silkworm (kawaii).
You can probably easily recognize Nikkori Silkworm because of the signs along the road.
The walls of the store are impressive, including a clock in the shape of a cocoon.

I recommend this restaurant: "Kaiko Yaki ".
Yes.
The silkworm, which is depicted on store signs, is now made into taiyaki-style sweets.
The size is such that it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.
It is still very cute with its smiling face.
There are a variety of flavors: "Tomioka's special tsubu-an ", "custard cream ", "chocolate cream ", "NY cheese cake ", "Tomioka's special mulberry green tea bean paste ", "Tomioka's special mulberry green tea cream "and a limited time menu.
There is also a Silkworm Yaki BOX, which includes seven regular-sale items.
We also recommend "Silkworm Mochi "in cute shades of red and white.

Iseya (department store)

This ramen shop was established in 1934.
"Eating at a ramen shop may give you the impression that ...... is a ramen shop. "You may get the impression that this was once a store that sold mainly dango.
As a remnant of this tradition, takeout items such as dango and onigiri are still available.
Please note that they may sell out early around noon.

Dango" covered with a thick sauce is a popular product of Iseya.
It is what is called "mitarashi dango.
In the past, craftsmen and women also used to eat it.
The sweet and sour taste is recommended as a source of energy for eating and walking.
If you want a solid lunch, try here "Shina Soba ".
This is also a familiar taste to the workers and is well-known in Tomioka.

Otsuka-ya

This, Otsukaya, is a local delicatessen.
The storefront, a remodeled Taisho era building, blends well with the retro atmosphere of Tomioka.
There is also a space in the store where you can eat your purchases.
There are many items on sale that are just right for eating and walking around.

The first thing I recommend at Otsukaya is this dashimaki tamago.
It has a fluffy yet firm texture and the umami of dashi (Japanese soup stock).
Each one is large, but since they are served on skewers, they are perfect for holding and eating.
There are many varieties, such as plain, Shimonita negi raayu, cheese, eel, crab, etc., so you may get lost.
The eggs used for this dashimaki are freshly picked every morning.
Silk powder is also used in the egg solution.
Other recommendations include "Yaki Manju (grilled manju) with mulberry leaves mixed into the dough "and "Bombed rice balls with boiled egg ".

Okaju Butcher Shop

A long-established butcher store that has long been a favorite in Tomioka.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is nostalgic, like an "old-fashioned butcher shop.
Available here are hot deep-fried items.
There are many other menu items available in addition to the ones recommended here, so please try them all.

When I think of fried hormone, I still remember the type of meat.

The clue is "paste.

It has long been a favorite in Tomioka, not only as a snack for children, but also as a snack for alcoholic beverages.
Okaju's fried hormone is reasonably priced at 120 yen for a set of three, so it is recommended for sharing with several people.
There are also many other items to try, such as "Curry Bread "and "American Dog ", which have a delightful crunchy texture.

Shinshuya is a shumai specialty restaurant located a couple of minutes' walk from Tomioka Silk Mill.
Founded in 1868, it is a long-established business and was once run as a ryokan.

Even as it is, it has a robust flavor and is full of deliciousness.

The restaurant also has soy sauce and other seasonings, so of course, seasoning to your liking is also recommended.

Souvenirs are available in boxes of 8 or 15 pieces, depending on the number of people.
