Osaka Castle Tenshokaku
If you go sightseeing in Osaka, you can't miss "Osaka Castle Keep ".
It is located in the middle of Osaka, in Chuo-ku, Osaka City, in the vast "Osaka Castle Park ", which covers an area of 105.6 hectares.
The nearest station to Osaka Castle Park is Osaka-jo Koen Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line, about a 10-minute walk from the castle tower. It is also about a 7-minute walk from Tanimachi 4-chome Station on the Subway Tanimachi and Chuo Lines.
Over a period of about 15 years, from 1583 to 1598, Toyotomi Hideyoshi built "Osaka Castle "(the notation of the time) as a base for unifying the country.
However, in 1615, Osaka Castle was destroyed in the "Osaka Summer Campaign" by the Edo shogunate led by the Toyotomi and Tokugawa families.
The second shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada, rebuilt Osaka Castle over a period of ten years starting in 1620, and it was completed during the reign of Iemitsu, the third shogun.
Construction was carried out on a large scale, with the stone walls and moat twice as deep as during the Toyotomi period, and the castle tower was built 15 meters higher.
However, the castle tower was struck by lightning and burned down in 1665.
In 1928, the castle tower was rebuilt with the proposal of then Osaka Mayor Hajime Seki and fundraising by the citizens, and was completed in 1931.
The current Osaka Castle Tenshukaku "that stands today "is a whopping third generation, having burned down twice.
Inside the castle tower is a museum where you can feel the history.
The keep consists of the first to eighth floors, and inside is a museum facility.
Materials from the Warring States period, documents related to Osaka Castle, and items related to Hideyoshi Toyotomi are on display, and will be of great interest to history students and foreign visitors who want to experience Japanese history and culture.
There is an observation deck on the 8th floor, from which visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast Osaka Castle grounds and the city of Osaka.
Light up and cherry blossoms can also be enjoyed.
The keep is illuminated in winter only and lit up almost every day after sunset.
In the past, the "Blue Light Up of Gratitude "was held to honor and thank health care workers for the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
Osaka Castle Park is also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot, with some 300 cherry trees, mostly Someiyoshino, providing visitors with a relaxing experience.
Visitors can enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms during the daytime, and at night they can enjoy the illumination of the cherry blossoms at night along with the castle tower.

In 1408 (Oei 15), Yorinaga Hosokawa became the lord of Kishiwada Castle, and the area came under the control of the Hosokawa clan for the next 130 years.
In 1585, Hideyoshi Hashiba defeated Negoroji Temple in Kishu and made his uncle Hidemasa Koide the lord of the castle. The castle walls were extensively renovated and a five-story castle tower was created.
After Okabe Nobukatsu entered the castle in 1640, he served as the 13th lord of the domain until the Meiji Restoration.
In 1827, the castle tower was destroyed by lightning.
The present keep is a reconstruction of the original keep rebuilt in 1954. The ruins of Kishiwada Castle were designated as a historic site by Osaka Prefecture in 1943.

The castle was built by Masanari Kusunoki, a military commander in Kawachi who was active from the Kamakura period (1185-1333) to the Nanbokucho period (1392-1333).
Masanari Kusunoki had Akasaka Castle (Shimoakasaka Castle) and Kusunoki Castle (Kami-akasaka Castle), and Chihaya Castle was built as a filling castle.
In 1333, Chihaya Castle became the scene of a war against the Kamakura Shogunate. (Battle of Chihaya Castle)

Ikeda Castle
"Ikeda Castle "in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, is said to have been built by Ikeda Noriyori around 1334 (the first year of the Kemmu Era) at the foot of Mount Gotsu.
From the Muromachi Period to the Warring States Period, the castle was the residence of generations of the Ikeda clan that ruled Toshima County (present-day Ikeda City, Toyonaka City, and Minoh City).
In 1469, during the Onin War, the castle was attacked by the forces of Ouchi Masahiro and fell, but in 1570, taking advantage of civil strife in the Ikeda clan, his vassal Araki Murashige expelled Ikeda Katsumasa and made him the lord of the castle.
It is said that Ikeda Castle was later abandoned when Araki Murashige took Itami Castle as his residence.

The current Ikeda Castle is located at "Ikeda Castle Ruins Park ".
The park was opened in 2000, and the tiger's entrance, karesansui (dry landscape garden), and wells have been faithfully restored.
The administration building, teahouse, and mock turret (observation and rest house) are different from the buildings and designs of the time, but they are reproductions of the image of Ikeda Castle.

飯盛城
"Iimori Castle "is a mountain castle on Mt. Iimori, straddling Daito City and Shijonawate City. "It is also called Iimoriyama Castle ".
At over 700 m from north to south and 400 m from east to west, it is one of the largest medieval mountain castles in western Japan.
Stone wall pioneered by Nobunaga
The castle is known as the residence of warlord Miyoshi Nagayoshi, but the date of construction is not known.
It was later attacked by Oda Nobunaga and little remains of the castle. "It is also known as the "phantom mountain castle" ".
Castle history has attributed the pioneer of stone walls to Oda Nobunaga, but the Daito City Board of Education announced in 2019 that the stone walls of Iimori Castle may have been introduced about three years earlier than Nobunaga.
Two routes to Iimori Castle
There are two routes to Iimori Castle: one is to get off at JR Gakkentoshi Line Nozaki Station and climb up from "Nozaki Kannon ", the other is to get off at Shijonawate Station and climb up from "Shijonawate Shrine ".
Both routes are hiking trails, so it is recommended to enter and exit the mountain by different routes on the way there and on the way back.
In 2017, it was selected as one of "the 100 best castles in Japan "by the Japan Castle Builders Association.
The official stamp for the stamp rally is available at "Shijonawate Municipal Museum of History and Folklore ". Please stop by on your way home from hiking.
