Hiroshima Prefecture has long flourished as the center of the Chugoku-Shikoku region. The city center is crowded with cutting-edge shopping malls and a bustling downtown area, while a little further out in the suburbs, you will find a rich natural environment.
In addition to Hiroshima City, there are also bases in Onomichi, Kure, and Takehara, each with its own unique characteristics. During the war, Kure City was a naval base, and the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima City, a tragedy unthinkable in today's peaceful world.
Hiroshima Prefecture, with such a long history, has been the setting for many anime and drama series. In this issue, we will introduce some of the anime that take place in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Historic buildings over 100 years old and cobblestone pavements create a stately atmosphere. A maze of narrow streets stretches along the back alleys. The good old town remains as it was in the past, and the symbol of Tomonoura is the everlasting nightlight. A set of five almost complete harbor facilities from the Edo period (1603-1868), including the nightlight, gangi, wharf, fire place, and boat guard station remains, and is often used as a depiction in paintings. It is also rare to find such a beautifully preserved set, and is said to be the only one of its kind in Japan.

summary

The story is about the main character Suzu, who marries from Hiroshima to Kure in February 1944, and lives a bright and strong life amidst the wartime shortage of goods and food. The following year, the atomic bomb dropped on the city of Hiroshima causes her to lose her precious things and grief strikes her, but she lives on strongly in Kure. Rather than depicting a tumultuous and dramatic life, this work represents the life of an ordinary woman who experienced war.

The central stage is the city of Kure

Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture, where the main character Suzu is married, is the center of the setting of "In This Corner of the World ". Kure City is known for being one of the largest military ports in Japan. The shipbuilding industry flourished and built the battleship "Yamato ". Its facilities are said to be the best in the East, and therefore it was the target of attacks during the war. Kure is still home to a Maritime Self-Defense Force base and a shipbuilding industry.

The locations where "This Corner of the World "is set by the production committee are distributed as location maps, so if you want to enjoy a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, please obtain one.

Make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

The surviving buildings include "Kure Station ", the bride's "Tatsukawa bus stop ", "the stairs in front of the National Kure Hospital ", "Koharu Bridge ", "Museum Street ", "and the Geki Gakkai Gathering Hall ". "The Petty Officer's Meeting House "(now the Kure Meeting House of the Maritime Self-Defense Force) is where Suzu's husband Shusaku worked, and appears in the scene where Suzu goes to deliver a ledger book to Shusaku.

The road that stretches from this meeting place to higher ground is "Museum Street ". Walking up that beautiful tree-lined slope, you will see "the stairs in front of the National Kure Hospital "where Shusaku's father, Entaro, was hospitalized. This staircase remains quite close to the atmosphere of the movie, so please visit and take a look.

One of the bridges over the Sakai River that runs through the center of the city is "Koharu Bridge ". It is probably remembered by those who saw the movie as the place where Suzu and Shusaku had a private date. It remains unchanged to this day, and you can even see Kure's symbolic Ashigamine Peak in the background.

Since we're here, we're going to do some sightseeing.

If you have come all the way to Kure City, "you should also visit the Yamato Museum "where you can learn about the history of the world's largest battleship "Yamato ", which was built in 1941 at a factory directly under the control of the Kure City Navy using state-of-the-art technology in a super-secret manner. "At the Yamato Museum ", you will be amazed at the scale of the one-tenth scale model of the battleship Yamato, which is 26.3 meters long.

There are also many valuable exhibits such as a prototype of a human torpedo, which was cruel but actually used by the Japanese military, and the Zero fighter (Zero fighter).
