Mt Ouroda in northeast Japan
Omuroyama is a volcano located on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula as a symbol of Izu, Ito, and Izu Kogen. Although it is not high, at about 580 meters above sea level, it is designated as a national natural monument, and its beautiful scenery has won the "Shizuoka Prefecture Landscape Award "Excellence Award. It is a popular spot for many tourists because of the variety of ways to enjoy the mountain both on top and at the foot of the mountain.
In the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture, there is an area with a high concentration of volcanoes called the eastern Izu volcano group. Omuro is one of these active volcanoes. It is known that the characteristic shape of the crater at the summit, which has a circumference of about 1,000 meters, was formed by an eruption about 4,000 years ago. Its silhouette, which looks like a bowl lying face down, is also distinctive. Omuro is also unique in that it is not a forest but a grassy mountain, and the color of its surface changes with the seasons. From spring to summer, the color changes from yellowish green to deep green. In autumn, the silver color of silver grass turns to gold, and in winter, it changes to black as it is burned in the mountains. This is a unique change of clothing unique to Kusayama.
Mount Omuro has many unique features, but the most striking is the shape of its summit. After a 6-minute lift ride up to the top, you will see a crater ruin 300 meters in diameter and approximately 70 meters deep. The top of the mountain looks as if it has caved in, and there is a promenade that leads visitors around the crater "and around the volcano ". The tour takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Archery is also available at the summit. Even first-timers can try it easily, so if time permits, you should definitely give it a try. The tour is open to junior high school students and older, 140 centimeters tall or taller.
At the foot of the mountain, where the lift station is located, there are stores and restaurants where you can taste the charm of Izu. Before heading home, why not take your time and look for local souvenirs?

Jogasaki Coast
Jogasaki Coast is a popular tourist spot located near Omuroyama. Omuro erupted approximately 4,000 years ago, and the lava that flowed out to Sagami Bay was formed. The columnar joints formed by the rapid cooling of the lava by seawater can also be observed, evoking images of the earth's activity and the long time that has passed since prehistoric times.
Along the coast, "there is a 3-kilometer-long boardwalk as a picnic course ", where you can enjoy a 2-hour stroll while slowly observing diving spots, fishing ports, "Bora Barn ", and more. The small flowers and grasses that linger underfoot and the rugged coastline created by the lava are truly impressive. Located at the halfway point of the picnic course is "Kadowaki Suspension Bridge ". The 48-meter-long, 23-meter-high bridge, which spans the deeply gouged coastline, is a bit bumpy and thrilling. Still, the view of the ocean from there is truly spectacular.
Across the Kadonowaki Suspension Bridge stands the 24.9 meter high "Kadonowaki Saiki Lighthouse ". The observation deck, which is normally free to climb, offers a 360-degree open view of the ocean and Mt. Omuro. The unfortunate point is that it is currently closed due to corona infection control measures, but one day when the restrictions are lifted, you will no doubt be able to enjoy the spectacular view again.
Jōgasaki Coast is generally characterized by its rugged and rocky terrain, but what awaits you at the end of the picnic course is a special place called "Igaga-roe ". As the name suggests, the ground has a rugged appearance. After the lava from Mt. Omuro cooled and hardened, it was pushed apart by the lava that came further down the mountain, leaving many of the rock's sharp edges exposed. This spot offers a glimpse of the immeasurable energy of the earth. If your time and energy permit, you should definitely try to reach it.

Shiraito Falls
"Shiraito Falls "in Fujinomiya City is a very famous waterfall, selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. It has been given numerous titles, including national scenic beauty, natural monument, and even selected as one of the three most famous waterfalls in Japan. Not only this named waterfall but also the nearby "Otodome Falls "are popular tourist destinations visited by many people.
If it is common for a waterfall to be a river that is exposed to the surface of the earth and drops into a step in the middle, Shiraito Falls can be said to have a special structure. Fuji, called the Old Fuji Mudflow Formation, is filled with groundwater from Mt. Shiraito Falls looks as if that underground water is flowing out of the rock face, and hundreds of waterfalls of various sizes are clustered together. The numerous thin, white streaks cascading down the 150-meter wide curved cliffs are the very reason for the name "Shiraito". It is characterized by its fantastic beauty, as if many strands of silken threads are hanging down.
Most of the water cascading down Shiraito Falls comes from Mt. The water temperature is kept at 12 degrees throughout the year, and a visit to the waterfall basin in summer brings a cool refreshing breeze to the surrounding area. Be healed while receiving negative ions throughout your body.
In contrast to the feminine and graceful Shiraito Falls, "Ototo Falls "cascade with a powerful roar from a 25-meter-high cliff. Located about a 5-minute walk from Shiraito Falls, visitors can enjoy comparing the contrasting personalities of the two waterfalls.

Palace of the Dragon King
The Izu Peninsula area has many interesting landforms created by volcanic activity and ocean waves. "Ryugu Grotto "is another very special place. In some cases, caves are formed when waves scrape away the weak parts of the cliffs facing the sea, and these sea caves are called "sea caves. In the case of Yonggugul Cave, there is a gaping hole in the ceiling, and underneath lies a mysterious space that is rarely seen.
The ceiling of the sea-eroded cave collapsed, and the cave was later widened by repeated cave-ins to its present shape. Today, the open skylight reaches a diameter of about 50 meters, combining the atmosphere of a closed cave with the openness of a blue sky. The walls of the cave are impressive with beautiful layers formed by accumulated volcanic debris. Sunlight pours down from the ceiling, and the rocks and the blue sea help to create a very refreshing and cozy place.
You can go inside and look up at the Yonggung Cave from below, as well as look down and admire it from the boardwalk above. The highlight is the beach, which is popular among couples as "a power spot for love ". The large skylight is divided into two, and its shape is exactly heart-shaped. It is a place that will warm the hearts of not only couples but also many people who want to strengthen their bonds with their loved ones.

Kakita River Spring
The Kakita River is the shortest first-class river in Japan, with a total length of approximately 1.2 kilometers. It is characterized by its extremely clean water quality, which makes it one of the three clearest rivers in Japan, along with the nationally famous Nagara River and the Shimanto River. What makes the Kakita River even more unique is that it is fed by a large number of springs, dozens of major ones alone. The water sources of the Kakita River are "Kakita River Spring Group "and have been selected as one of the 100 best water sources, and are also designated as a national natural monument.
The abundant spring water flowing into the Kakita River is about 1 million cubic meters per day. This figure is so large that it is called "the largest spring water volume in the East "and is a valuable water resource for the neighboring areas. Incidentally, analysis has shown that it takes 26 to 28 years for the rain and snow that falls around Mt. Fuji to come back to the ground as spring water. It must be somewhat romantic to think that the water that gushes out now has traveled underground for longer than the lives of the younger generation.
The source of the Kakita River, which flows through the city, can be observed in Kakita River Park, which is also a natural tourist spot. There are several points where the spring water gushes out, called "byways ", which can be viewed from several locations in the park. There is also a viewing platform from which you can see the groundwater gushing out clearly and visually. The water that gushes out at this location can be drunk freely at the water fountain. You will want to enjoy the cool and tasty drinking water, which is rich in minerals, carbon dioxide, and oxygen, and is cool even in summer.
Kakita River Park is also famous for its many rare plants and animals. In particular, the Aohada dragonfly is said to be the only dragonfly that can be seen only in Kakita River. The clean spring water also makes the park a popular habitat for fireflies, which attract many people to the park from June to July.
