Nihondaira Yume Terrace

Nihondaira Yume Terrace is an observatory located in Shizuoka City. Kengo Kuma, famous for designing the New National Stadium, the main venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, was involved in its construction.

Nihondaira is one of the most scenic spots in Japan, having been awarded first place in a competition of the 100 best sightseeing spots in Japan. The panoramic view of Mt. Fuji over the tea plantation, Shimizu Port below, the Izu Peninsula, and the Southern Alps is truly spectacular. Near the top of the mountain, there is a plum orchard that is at its best from February to March, and cherry blossoms can be seen from late March.

Nihondaira Yume Terrace is a beautiful wooden facility built with an abundance of wood from Shizuoka Prefecture and in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape. The 1,200-square-meter garden with seasonal flowers is also attractive.

In the exhibition area on the first floor, visitors can learn about the history and culture of Japan and the surrounding tourist attractions using graphic panels, projection mapping, and touch panels. The history of the famous scenic spot "Nihondaira "is introduced like a picture scroll from the age of myths and legends, and is very worth seeing.

On the second floor is a lounge where you can enjoy seasonal teas and tea sweets. You can relax and enjoy the view of the terrace, which also overlooks Miho no Matsubara and the Kuno Coast.

Climbing to the third floor, you will find a 360-degree all-glass observation floor. Below you can see Shimizu Port and Suruga Bay, which is said to be the deepest bay in Japan, and beyond that you can see the majestic Mt. The view of the city of Shizuoka and the Miho Pine Barrens is also spectacular. When the weather does not allow you to see Mt. Fuji, you can see the beautiful Mt. Fuji displayed on a large monitor. The observation corridor is approximately 200 meters in circumference and offers a wonderful view from here as well.

On Saturdays, it is open at night so that visitors can enjoy the night view.
The spectacular view was even recognized by the Night View Convention & Visitors Bureau in July 2016 as a "Japan Night View Heritage ".

The exterior of the building is designed to resemble a ship, and is nicknamed "Grand Ship "after its shape. It is a huge structure with two basement levels and 12 stories above ground, with a floor space of 60,360 square meters, a total length of over 200 meters, and a height of approximately 60 meters. It is so large that it can be seen from the windows of the Tokaido Main Line and the Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train that pass right next to it.

The plaza is finished with beautiful lawn and interlocking (a combined brick-like painting method). Together with the Main Hall, it can be used to host large events.
Facilities include a Main Hall, a Medium Hall, the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center, conference rooms and the Granship Corner of the Prefectural Library.

Shiseido Art House

Shiseido Art House is a cultural facility that opened in 1978 and was upgraded to an art museum in 2002.
Designed by architects Shinsuke Takamiya and Yoshio Taniguchi, it won the "Architectural Institute of Japan Award "in 1980 and is famous as a masterpiece of modernist architecture representing the 1970s.

The modern silver building looks like a combination of a cube and a cylinder, and the construction company paid close attention to the many surfaces of the structure. The curved glass windows are mirrored from the outside, and were designed based on the concept of beautifully reflecting the passing bullet trains. The building is like an abstract sculpture, with every detail carefully considered.

The museum houses approximately 1,600 works of art collected through special exhibitions held at the Shiseido Gallery in Ginza and art and cultural support activities.
The first and second floor exhibition rooms display a variety of art works selected from these collections. The museum is thoroughly designed to create a calm and relaxing space for visitors to take their time and appreciate the sophisticated artworks. In addition, special exhibitions are held on a regular basis, allowing visitors to view works of art that are not on display in the permanent collection. Special exhibitions are held as frequently as once every few months, and visitors are always entertained no matter how many times they visit the museum.

The adjacent Shiseido Corporate Museum introduces the history of the company's corporate culture since its foundation in 1872.
Advertising works such as packages, newspaper and magazine advertisements, and TV commercials from the time of the company's founding to the present day are also on display. The museum also introduces the relationship between Shiseido and Japanese cosmetic culture, and some of the exhibits include valuable collection items such as Edo-era makeup tools. Both the art house and the archives are so well worth seeing that it is hard to believe that they are free of charge.

The beautiful lawn garden also houses numerous sculptures. It is also an ideal place to enjoy the surrounding scenery: flowers in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall.

Toraya Kobo

Toraya Kobo is a famous confectionary store located in Higashiyama, Gotemba City. Higashiyama, Gotemba City is where many villas were built from the Meiji period to the Showa period as a summer resort at the foot of Mt.

It was designed by architect Hiroshi Naito, who mainly works on public facilities such as art galleries and museums. The appeal of this building is that it blends neatly into the surrounding landscape while emphasizing durability. The building curves gently to catch the expanse of the garden, and the semi-exterior space created between the coffee shop and sales office is designed to blend in with the greenery, drawing in the air of the garden.

The mountain gate has been here since 1927 and has an atmospheric appearance. The walking path from there is surrounded by fresh air with sunlight filtering through the trees between the bamboo groves. Walking along the bamboo walkway, you will see a stylish store.

Built on a site that was originally a private villa, the building is designed so that the garden can be viewed from anywhere in the restaurant. The garden, which can be seen from inside the restaurant, changes with the seasons, and is almost as complete as a painting.

The café space is filled with the warmth of wood, and you can enjoy Japanese sweets while enjoying the gentle light and the beautiful garden that spreads out before you.
Fuji ", seasonal yokan (sweet bean jelly) representing the beauty of Mt. Fuji in each season ", and "anmitsu (sweet bean paste) "made with chestnuts and sencha green tea from the Gotemba area are some of the best sweet treats available in the area.
