Drink, eat and play a lot! Gunma Ranch

2025-02-13

The lush green scenery of the ranch is perfect for a relaxing trip.
Gunma Prefecture has an abundance of ranches, partly because it is surrounded by mountains.
In this issue, we would like to introduce a collection of spots with especially good food and activities.
So, without further ado, let's get started.

Author of this article

Ikaho Green Farm

This is the largest tourist farm in Gunma Prefecture.
A variety of animals, including horses, ponies, sheep, goats, rabbits, and sheepdogs, can be seen, and are popular with both adults and children.
It is conveniently located 1~2 minutes by car from Ikaho Onsenkyo, so why not combine your stay with sightseeing and lodging in Ishidan Machi?
You can also drive 5 minutes to "Mizusawa Kannon (水澤観世音) ", a famous spot known for the many udon restaurants on the approach to the temple.

Green Pasture is a ranch where you can play with animals.
You can enjoy interacting with rabbits and walking with goats and sheep, so please join us.
The cost is ¥500 per experience (as of June 2023).
Time with fluffy animals is a great way to create memories.

In addition to petting animals, there are many other activities at Green Pasture.
There is a full range of activities from physical activities such as putting golf and archery to hands-on experiences such as making ice cream and butter.

Among the things I recommend are "Sheepdog Show ".
Visitors can watch a sheepdog chase and put together sheep as a show.
The sheepdog show held here at Green Pasture is said to be one of the largest in Japan, and is very powerful.
Let's have fun with sweaty hands.
Since the ice cream and butter making experience ends as soon as the materials are used, we recommend that you register early, especially on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Each fee is set individually, so please check the official website.

One of the best things about ranching is the delicious food.
There are many gourmet options at Green Pasture, but we will introduce two.

The first is Cafe Greenleaf's "share pancakes ".
Fluffy pancakes filled with cream and fruit sauce.
If you eat it after a long walk, the sugar will soak into your body.

Each plate contains two servings, so please share.
"If you want to eat a lot, it is good to eat by yourself! "If you want to eat a lot, you can have it all to yourself.
There are rabbits in the Greenleaf store, which is recommended for animal lovers.

The second gourmet food item is Pikneo's "Wild Burger ".

The cow branding on the bun is a kawaii item.
The patties are dense with meat and full of umami flavor.
The tender cheddar cheese is also sandwiched in, making it a satisfying meal.
The crispy fried potatoes and sweet and sour pickles are also irresistible.
If you play at Green Pasture, you must try it.

I recommend the "Soft Cream Tart Cake "as a souvenir here.
It is said to be mixed with the original soft-serve ice cream sold at the ranch, and when you bite into it, the aroma of milk fills the air.
The flavor is even more pronounced when warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds or lightly baked in a toaster, but it is also delicious served cold.
Adding fruit or fruit sauce is also recommended.
Star Bread ", which is prepared with only the ranch's special milk for moisture, "is also very popular.

Kozu Farm

This ranch is also so famous in Gunma Prefecture that no one knows about it.
It is especially known for its delicious dairy products.
Kozu Ranch soft serve ice cream is sold at some of the roadside stations in the prefecture, so please try it when you see it.

Kozu Farm is home to many animals, including dairy cows (Jersey breed), ponies, goats, rabbits, and sheep.
Just looking at the vast greenery and watching them live in peace and quiet is relaxing.
The experience of interacting with goats, rabbits, and sheep, as well as visiting baby cows, is basically free and open every day, and is definitely something to enjoy.

Around 1:00 p.m., visitors can watch the big procession of cattle moving from pasture to pasture, which is a must-see.
This is a typical event at Kozu Farm.
The sight of the big, shiny cows walking in a circle is met with loud cheers of "kawaii ", "wow ", etc.
There are also other paid events such as milking, pony rides, walks with goats, and guided tours in the pasture, so enjoy yourself to the fullest.
Please see the official website for the prices of each event.

There are no fancy activities at Kozu Ranch.
The mountains offer a rich natural environment.
Spend a day relaxing to the fullest in the crisp, clear air.
Take "camping," for example.

For a fee, you can pitch your own tent or build a bonfire.
Walking around the ranch and collecting the necessary firewood would be a great experience.
Why don't you enjoy a BBQ with a bonfire you set yourself?
Those who stay overnight at the ranch can also use the Goemon-buro (Goemon bath) for free.
Everything from gathering firewood to boiling water is self-service, but you can prepare it while having fun with your friends, family, or partner.
Every minute spent at Kozu Farm is filled with special experiences.
I also recommend "Night Tour "where you can observe the natural animals that come to the meadow at night.

Kozu Ranch has two places to eat: "Teppanyaki Corner "where you can grill fresh beef yourself, and "Cafeteria "with a wide variety of dishes.
In this issue, we recommend one item from each of these menus.

First is the Teppanyaki Corner "Momo Teishoku ".
The thigh meat is tender and of high quality, with just the right amount of bravura in the lean meat.
Instead of beef fat, butter is spread generously on the griddle to give the dish the deep richness of milk.
As soon as it is heated, a delicious aroma comes over you, and it is irresistible.
Grill thoroughly on both sides, but do not overcook.
The set meal comes with a few vegetables such as green peppers and onions, but can be ordered separately if not enough.

The cafeteria recommends "soft serve ice cream ".
If you go to Kozu Farm, this is a must-try gourmet meal.
As mentioned above, it is available at some roadside stations in Gunma Prefecture, but it tastes exceptional when eaten at a ranch.
Please try our specialty soft drink made without eggs and with plenty of milk.
All ingredients for meat and dairy products are made by Kozu Ranch.
Butter and other products are handmade on the farm.
The greatest attraction is that you can enjoy only safe and secure food with your full stomach.

When it comes to souvenirs from Kozu Farm, dairy products are a must.
For example, how about this "Butter in a can "
The cute retro design of the tin is filled with 225 grams of butter.
It is delicious not only in stir-fries and sweets, but also as a spread on bread and potatoes.
It is a bit large, so it is a good choice for home use or as a souvenir for people who use a lot of butter.
For a more casual souvenir, we also recommend the 100 gram "jar of butter ".
"jerky "made from Jersey beef from Kozu Ranch and "beef curry "in retort are also popular.

Asama Farm Tea House

At an elevation of 1,300 meters, the ranch spreads out at the foot of Mt.
Surrounded by magnificent nature, the scenery is so beautiful that just being there is relaxing.
It is not a large tourist ranch, but it has a great healing effect.
Spend a luxurious time in the embrace of the nature of Mt.
The four seasons of spring with its young buds, summer with its fresh greenery, autumn with its autumn leaves, and winter with its snowfalls await us.

Since you are in the mountains, why not try walking the trails where you can hike?
Along the course, there are scenic spots where you can look out over pastureland.
Guided tours by guides certified by the Asamayama Geopark Promotion Council are also recommended.
If you wish to visit, please contact the Asamayama Geopark Promotion Council at 0279-82-5566.
Although it is a hiking course, it is still a mountain trail, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes for the environment.
The best bag is a backpack that leaves both hands free.
Also, please have a minimum amount of equipment available, such as clothing in case of cold weather, rainwear, chocolate or other snacks, a compass, and a mobile battery.
Other activities include petting and feeding animals, pony rides, and more.

The restaurant at Asama Ranch Teahouse offers a variety of menu items, from meals to sweets.

The "roast beef donburi "with plenty of light pink beef on top is also popular.
The roast beef, which is grilled in the restaurant every day, is moist and tender.
It goes well with the fresh highland vegetable salad that accompanies the meat.
Roast beef bowls are available in limited quantities.
"If you want to eat this, please come early! "If you want to try this, please come early.
In addition, "thick mugs of milk "are available at the store right next to the souvenir shop.
You can choose between a large or small mug.
If you want to drink plenty of farm fresh milk, try it.

The souvenir shop here has a wide variety of products.
A wide variety of products are available, from dairy products, a staple of the farm, to sweets, snacks, and craft beer.

Among them, I would like to recommend the sweet "Karuizawa Madeleine Cheeseburger "which was introduced in a TV program.
A rich cheese cream sandwiched between moist textured madeleines, this is a dish that is so good you won't be able to stop eating it.
It is recommended to take it home as a souvenir or to buy a thick mug of milk at the store and taste it together.
Cheese and milk, how could they not go together? ......
A sweet that combines the best of cookies and chocolate for an enchanting mouth-watering experience. "Yumekomi "is another popular souvenir product.
