rice ball coated with sweetened red beans, soybean flour or sesame

A famous confectionary representing Hiroshima

Many people probably think of "Momiji Manju "as the first thing that comes to mind when they think of souvenirs from Hiroshima. These buns are shaped like autumn leaves and are regularly ranked among the top souvenirs from all over Japan.

Originally a souvenir of Miyajima, it is now available everywhere in the prefecture. It is conveniently sold at department stores, directly-managed stores of the manufacturer, Hiroshima Station, and convenience stores.

Rich Variety

The original "Momiji Manju "is filled with koshi-an (sweet red bean paste), which is made from carefully selected azuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, and high-quality water, and baked into a fluffy, autumn-leaf-shaped bun. It is moderately sweet and goes well with both tea and coffee, so it has been loved for a long time. Nowadays, not only Koshi-an but also many other varieties are available such as Grain-an, Cheese cream, Chocolate, Mochi, and Sweet Potato.

We are also particular about the dough, and recently the glutinous fresh sweets-like "fresh momiji "have become popular. The dough is made of rice flour and is very moist. It comes in three flavors: koshian (sweet red bean paste), tsubu-an (sweet red bean paste), and matcha (powdered green tea). The matcha green tea "fresh momiji "is made with deep Nishio matcha green tea kneaded into the dough and red bean paste. The white bean paste made from otebako beans is used as the base to bring out the flavor of the matcha, giving it an elegant sweetness and flavor.

Hattendo's Creamy Buns

Who is Hattendo?

Hattendo is a historical store established in Mihara City in 1933. It was originally a Japanese-style confectionery, but after World War II, it introduced Western-style confectionery and has since become a confectionery that blends Japanese and Western styles.
It is not limited to Hiroshima, but extends throughout Japan and even overseas to Singapore and Hong Kong.

Fluffy and thick

Hattendo's signature product is "Cream Pan ". It is so soft that it is more like a sweet than a loaf of bread. When you put it in your mouth, the moist texture of the dough and the moderately sweet cream fuse together, spreading happiness. The light texture makes it easy to eat two or three pieces.

There are several types of cream, which are always available regardless of the season: custard, fresh cream & custard, green tea, chocolate, and Ogura. In addition, seasonal creams are also available.

It can also be frozen, so it is safe for those who cannot eat it right away. When defrosting, place in the refrigerator for 24 hours to allow the cream to thaw slowly, so that the moisture from the cream will be transferred to the bread, resulting in a moist, chewy bread.

There is also a cafe!

"Hattendo Cafelier "is a café run by Hattendo. "Cafe+Atelier = Fusion of Cafe and Atelier "represents not just a café, but a participatory café where you can experience surprise and fun. "Hattendo Cafeelier "offers not only Hattendo's creamy bread, but also fluffy pancakes baked to order and light meals.

Also, "Hattendo cafelier "offers a bread baking class. Visitors can experience everything from making the dough to pouring in the cream, and can make their own original cream buns.

Main Distributors

Hattendo's main store is located in Mihara City. In addition, Hattendo can be purchased at Hiroshima Airport, Tenku Cafe & Factory, Hattendo Miamihara Shinmei-no-Sato Store, and EKIE Hiroshima Station Store.

Western-style confectionary cake

Cake filled with Western wine

The sake cakes at "Kunihiroya "in Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture, have a slightly mature taste and are perfect for those who love to drink. Fuchu City once prospered as a transit point for the accumulation of silver from Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, and people from the Shogunate often came and went, so it is said that Western culture spread quickly in the area. Under such circumstances, Western wine cakes were created in 1961 based on French baked sweets "Sabalin ". The cake is made by soaking sponge cake in a rich rum and brandy syrup so that it is loved by the country people.

Carefully selected ingredients and handmade flavors

"Ingredients for the sake cake "are fresh eggs from neighboring Sera. Also, the syrup is a blend of rum and two types of brandy, resulting in a mellow aroma that no one can reproduce. Using these ingredients, artisans carefully bake and make the dough every day. You can feel the warmth of handmade and fine-tuned every day to create a unique moist and elegant taste.
