Cafe Mountain attracts fans from all over the country.

Cafe Mountain is a long-established coffee shop located in Showa Ward, Nagoya.
The first owner, Kosuke Kano, founded the store in 1968, and since then it has continued to attract many fans for over 50 years.
Today, Kosuke's son, Takahisa, is the second-generation owner of the restaurant, and he and his grandson, Masashi, continue to carry on the restaurant's flavor.

These days there are many cute cafes that make you want to post them on social networking sites, but that is not what Café Mountain is selling.
The interior of the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, and at a quick glance, it looks just like a good old-fashioned coffee shop.
So what is it that draws so many fans to Café Mountain?

The secret of our popularity is our high-impact menu.

What made Cafe Mountain famous was its creative and unique menu.
In particular, the signature menu item "Sweet Ogura Green Tea Spa "is so popular that it is not an exaggeration to say that there is not a day that goes by when an order is not placed.

In addition, "sweet melon spa ""sweet banana spa "and many other unique menu items, Café Mountain is also known as a mecca for strange food.

Because there were many universities in the area, when it first opened, Cafe Mountain offered a large menu for students at a reasonable price.
Later, when the economy slowed down, they began to offer the current odd-meal menu around the 1990s.

Some jargon among fans.

Café Mountain is known as a sacred place for parasitic food and is frequently featured in the media.
The popularity of the mountain bike has even given rise to a technical term called "mountain lingo" among the fans.

[Main Mountain Terms ]
Mountain...I mean Cafe Mountain.
Mountain climbing...going to Coffee Mountain for a meal.
Going downhill...returning from Coffee Mountain.
Climb to the top...to finish the menu you ordered.
Distress...to force oneself to eat and feel sick or have an upset stomach. Also, to leave food behind.
Icebergs...shaved ice.
Avalanche...when the ice collapses and falls off while eating shaved ice

The menu as well as the terminology is truly unique.
If you are planning to climb a mountain in the future, you should definitely learn it.

Coffee Mountain's Specialty Menu (Rice)

Another attraction of Café Mountain is the wide variety of menu items that make it exciting to visit any time of the year.
There are more than 300 kinds of dishes, ranging from the royal menu to the oddities called "odd foods"!
Furthermore, new menu items are being added one after another by the second generation, Takahisa and Masashi, and the third generation, Masashi.

Unfortunately, however, Café Mountain does not have pictures of its dishes on the menu, so you have to rely on its naming and trust your instincts when ordering.
So, we have picked up the specialty menu of Cafe Mountain with photos.
First, let us introduce the rice menu!

Adult children's lunch

A playful dish of buttered rice topped with a hamburger steak, meatballs, and sausage.
Another interesting point is that different cooking staffs have different character designs.

ranchero pilaf

The second generation created this dish inspired by his wife's hometown in Mexico.
It is designed to look like a farm, with the corn on the chicken rice representing a corn field, the omelette a chicken coop, and the hamburger steak a pig pen.

cactus pilaf

Cafe Mountain also offers a popular menu featuring homemade cactus.
Please note that when the cactus stock runs out, you will not be able to eat them until the following season! Summer is the best time to visit.

Ice Curry Mountain

This menu was invented by the third generation, and as the name suggests, you can enjoy the harmony of ice cream and curry.
It is a new specialty of Coffee Mountain that has divided opinion.

donkey rice

This advanced menu is disguised as an ordinary pilaf, but pineapple, prunes, and nata de coco are lurking in the background.
If you are attracted by the name and ask for it, you are likely to get lost.

United States of Spice

A medium spicy dry curry with spices. It becomes mellow when mixed with an egg.
In addition, Cafe Mountain has several other curry-based menu items, all of which are popular and delicious.

maestro

This is a very hot hamburger with plenty of homemade chili sauce.
It is said to be one of the spiciest dishes on the menu at Cafe Mountain, so we recommend that you plan to take the next day off work.

Sweet Ogura Green Tea Spa

It is well known as the signature menu item of Cafe Mountain.
This authentic dish with homemade sauce and red bean paste is very popular among first-time mountaineers.

Sweet Strawberry Spa

The pink noodles are absolutely lovely, and this sweet spa is available only in winter and spring.
Although the texture is pasta, the aroma of strawberries and the sweetness of whipped cream fill the mouth from the first bite, making this an intermediate level menu item.

Café Mountain's Specialty Menu (Desserts)

Next up is Café Mountain's famous dessert. If you succeed in climbing to the top of the rice menu, be sure to try this one as well.

thick or heavy make-up

This dessert is a baguette filled with red bean paste and fresh cream.
Some days it is not possible to order depending on the availability, so if you have a chance to try it, please do so.

Hiroshi's Selfish Pancakes

Café Mountain also has menus named after people, such as Takashi and Mitsuru.
Hiroshi's selfish pancake is one dish with plenty of sweet bean paste lurking in the middle, and is popular for its delicious taste.

soda float

Café Mountain is no ordinary float menu. What is surprising is the volume.
The ice cream on top of the drink makes a big impact.

shaved ice (usually served with flavored simple syrup)

Even more surprising than the float menu is the volume of shaved ice! As one might expect, it is called an iceberg.

If you ask for a large size just because it is the hot season, this is a terrible idea.
Avalanches, of course, are likely to be lost at this volume.

Tasting the menu at Cafe Mountain

Finally, for those who are about to make their first trip to the mountain, here is an actual food report from Café Mountain!
This time, I tried the beginner's menu, sweet Ogura green tea spa.

Perhaps because it is a popular restaurant, it was quite crowded at lunch time, even on weekdays.
And after a few dozen minutes of waiting ....... Finally, today's star of the show is in front of you!
It may look like a cold dessert, but it is hot because the pasta is stir-fried before serving.
The sweet aroma of the dish is even before you eat it, probably due to the steamy air.

Incidentally, since I climbed the mountain with three friends that day, we ordered more than just the sweet Ogura green tea spa.
Top left is sweet Ogura green tea spa, top right is mushroom pilaf, bottom left is tuna cream pilaf, and bottom right is omelette rice.
Thus, Café Mountain also has a so-called regular menu.

It's quite a volume, but will you make the summit? ......
After receiving a plate, the three of us started to eat!

...... a dozen minutes after starting to eat.
I am the one who gave up eating completely.
The volume of the omelette that I had eaten earlier hit me and I was completely demoralized.
However, the taste was quite better than I expected. My friend gave up after a few bites, so it depends on the person.

So, unfortunately, this time the result was that we were lost.
However, I hope to manage to reach the summit next time!

summary

Cafe Mountain constantly attracts fans from all over the country with its unique food names and high-impact menu. If you visit Nagoya, you must try it at least once.
Basically, all the dishes are very hearty, so if you are planning to climb the mountain, please try to go there with a hungry stomach.
