Gunma Prefecture】All you can eat! 6 Fruit Picking Options from Spring to Summer

2023-04-04

Gunma Prefecture is a region where agriculture of vegetables and fruits is flourishing.
Fresh and tasty agricultural products are popular among tourists, especially those who come to pick fruits.
In this article, we have compiled a list of farms where you can enjoy all-you-can-eat fruits that are in season from spring to summer.

Author of this article

Ito Engei Strawberry House

As the name suggests, this is a farm where you can enjoy strawberry picking.
There is a direct sales shop and greenhouse along Prefectural Route 3, and signs are prominently displayed, so it is unlikely that you will get lost.

Strawberry picking is done in a greenhouse.
The rows and rows of cute fruit-bearing seedlings are a sight to behold.
It is like a symbol of spring.

Enjoy comparing four varieties.

You can enjoy all-you-can-eat four varieties: "Yayohime" and "Tochiotome," which are often found in supermarkets, "Sachinoka" and "Benihoppe," which are a little rarer.
The time limit is set at 40 minutes, which is long enough to fully enjoy the eating contest at a leisurely pace.
We also offer free refills of condensed milk for 100 yen per cup, so be sure to enjoy changing the flavor as you go.

At Ito Engei Strawberry House, we have introduced a method called "high cultivation" in which the crop grows in a high position.
It is adjusted so that the strawberries can be picked at about the waist of an adult, allowing visitors to experience harvesting while standing without bending their knees.

People who do not want to squat in skirts or other clothing, or who have leg pain, can enjoy fruit picking with peace of mind.
The farm is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
If you wish to purchase strawberries as souvenirs, cashless payment is available at direct sales.

Takumi no Sato Strawberry House

This is another place to enjoy strawberry picking in spring and early summer.
Tanigawa, which rises on the border of Gunma and Niigata prefectures, is used to grow varieties such as "Shohime," "Kaorino," and "Royal Queen" under high cultivation using snow melt water.
Royal Queen is a high-end variety, but for an additional 500 yen to the regular price, you can have all-you-can-eat.

Tanigawa at an elevation of 1,977 meters, the water is very cold, which is actually ideal for strawberry production.
This is because the sweeter the strawberry fruit grows in a cooler environment, the sweeter it becomes.
In particular, I recommend the early morning berries for their texture.
If you have more time in your travel schedule, you could visit during the morning hours.

Enjoy strawberry picking in a private area at a leisurely pace.

Takumi no Sato Strawberry House is open by reservation only as of March 2023.
Each group will have its own area, so it is an environment where it is unlikely that you will cross paths with others.
Enjoy yourself without feeling uncomfortable.
Options include making strawberry daifuku and purchasing chocolate sauce for changing flavors.

The café inside the facility offers a variety of sweets that "look good.
Taking pictures and videos is another way to enjoy fruit picking.
Let's taste all the delicious and cute strawberries.

Fruit Village Harada Farm

The loquat season is short, and only a few farms offer the fruit for picking.
At Harada Farm, a fruit village, loquat picking is held from about mid-June to early July.
Enjoy varieties such as "Tanaka" and "Motegi" during the 30-minute all-you-can-eat session.

If you have time after picking fruits, why not try "jam-making" or "parfait-making"?
Eating something you made yourself is also a great way to remember your trip.
The experience facility is located in Numata City, about 25 minutes by car from the loquat picking site in Shibukawa City via the Akagi IC.

There is also a store on the farm in Numata City where you can shop.

Hope Hill Farm

If you enjoy fruit picking near urban areas in Gunma Prefecture, we recommend this farm.
Hope Hill Farm is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Takasaki.
It takes only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Tokyo.
From mid-June, a blueberry harvesting event is held, where visitors can eat all they can eat for 30 minutes.
The sparkling purple fruits are rich in anthocyanins, a type of polyphenol, vitamin C, and other nutrients that are good for health and beauty.

After the all-you-can-eat, try "Tsububeri Soft," a specialty of Hope Hill Farm.
This one is also garnished with blueberries and is a perfect match for the soft-serve ice cream.

Spend quality time picking blueberries and barbecuing.

Souvenir blueberries are sold at the farm.
In addition to fresh fruit, frozen blueberries are also available, so choose the one that best suits your needs and the number of days you want to store them.
If you have time, I recommend picking the fruit yourself and taking it home.
You can rent a basket that can hold up to 2 kilograms.
Blueberries picked while looking out over a spacious field the size of 4.3 Tokyo Domes are exceptionally delicious.

In addition, a barbecue area is available on the farm by reservation only.
Nets, charcoal, griddles, and other necessary tools can be rented, and fire-making services can be requested.
It would be good to enjoy it together with fruit picking.
