Hiroshima Prefecture is famous nationwide for its local delicacies such as Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, oysters, and autumn-leaf buns, but there are also many other lesser-known but superbly delicious Hiroshima gourmet foods. We have selected a number of restaurants that offer Hiroshima's local delicacies that are well-known to locals but not so major in Japan.

sea urchin hornet

Uni horen is a simple teppan dish combining sea urchin and spinach, but it is one of Hiroshima's hidden local delicacies, a rarity in Japan.

The harmony of flavors "of soft and refreshing spinach and richly flavored sea urchin "is a superb dish that goes great with rice or beer. It is also recommended to try it on French bread.

Umaimon-ya Goemon

There are a number of places where you can eat sea urchin horen if you search for them, but I would recommend "Goemon ", which mainly deals with Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. Goemon's sea urchin horen, served on aluminum foil, looks and tastes first class. All tables in the restaurant are equipped with teppan griddles, so you can enjoy the hot sea urchin horen. The restaurant also offers a full teppan-yaki menu other than sea urchin horen, and since okonomiyaki is also a great tasting restaurant, you may want to try it as an appetizer before the okonomiyaki.

呉冷麺麺麺麺

Located in Kure City, "Kure Cold Noodles "is another hidden local delicacy that has a strong following. Cold noodles may conjure up images of sweet and sour Chinese noodles like "chilled chuka ", but Kure cold noodles are a little different. The noodles are flat, the soup is hot and spicy with a hint of sweetness, and the chicken broth is rich and unique, but those who are addicted to it will be hooked.

Chun Lai Hin

The two biggest Wu cold noodle stores are "Wu Long "and "Chin Lai Heen ". You can't go wrong with either of these restaurants, but Chin Lai Heen, located on Wu's main street, is said to be the birthplace of Wu Cold Noodle, and is the place to taste the original Wu Cold Noodle. On weekends, this popular restaurant draws long lines at lunchtime.

Two types of vinegar are always available on the table for you to pour your favorite vinegar, one is black vinegar and the other is vinegar that contains hot pepper. You can enjoy the change in taste by adding your favorite vinegar, and both vinegars are very tasty.

Setouchi lemon

Recently, Setouchi lemons have become increasingly well known as the soul food of Hiroshima. Grown in the warm climate of the Seto Inland Sea, the fresh aroma and taste of Setouchi lemons are irresistible. There are many menus in Hiroshima that use lemons, a specialty of Hiroshima, and we would like to introduce two restaurants that we highly recommend.

RIVA

RIVA is located in Hiroshima's largest entertainment district "Nagaregawa ", and is a famous hideout where you can taste mainly local cuisine of Hiroshima. "Lemon nabe "is made with Setoda lemons. How wicked to use that refreshing Setouchi lemon in a hot pot! But, my prejudice was quickly dispelled as I was surprised at how delicious this nabe is. Please enjoy the lemon nabe and get drunk with Setouchi lemon beer.

Tin Shim Court

Tenshinkaku is a secluded cafe on Miyajima. This café is a hot topic among fashionable girls because you can enjoy sweets on the terrace with a spectacular view, but it is also a good place for those who want to taste Setouchi lemons because you can have an excellent "lemon cake "using whole Setouchi lemons.

Navy Curry

Navy Curry is a representative soul food of Kure City. Kure City has prospered as a naval town since the Meiji Era, and this local curry was popularized with the cooperation of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, based on the concept that the general public should be able to taste the curry actually eaten by the Maritime Self-Defense Force personnel.

Retort curry called "Navy-san's Curry "is very popular as a souvenir, but if you visit Kure City, you can enjoy the historical and traditional taste of Navy Curry at a restaurant.

Harbor Coffee Shop

There are several places in Kure that offer navy curry, and I would like to recommend "Minato Town Coffee Shop ". The Navy Curry here is characterized by a generous portion of tender beef tendon, which gives the dish a rich flavor and sweetness that is hard to resist. And it is no exaggeration to say that this is the only spot in Japan where you can fully enjoy the navy curry while gazing at the powerful sight of submarines lined up in front of you, including the pier where the submarines of the Maritime Self-Defense Force are docked. As a coffee shop, you can also enjoy original coffee and sweets.

Small sardine dishes

Small sardine dishes are another hidden gourmet delicacy in Hiroshima. The fish that Hiroshima residents have long loved "small sardines "are sold at supermarkets and fresh fish stores in Hiroshima from June to August, and many people eat them as tempura or sashimi. Sashimi of small sardines in particular is so rare in Japan that it is rumored to be available only in Hiroshima. Fresh sashimi of small sardines served with ginger soy sauce is the best of the best.

Miyajima-guchi Restaurant

Small sardine dishes can be found at izakayas (Japanese-style pubs) in Hiroshima depending on the season, but when it comes to small sardine sashimi, there are very few restaurants that offer it. However, "Miyajimaguchi "sells small sardine sashimi as its signature menu item. Located just a short walk from JR Miyajima-guchi Station, this restaurant is a great place to stop by and try some of the delicious sashimi, tempura, and the famous Hiroshima oysters.

fried noodles with pickles

There is a hidden B-class gourmet food in Aki Ota Town in northern Hiroshima Prefecture that is not well known even among Hiroshima residents. It is called tsukemono yakisoba, also known as "tsukemono yakisoba ". Some people say "that they grill pickles? What a wicked way! "But Aki Ota-cho has heavy snowfall, and this is a food culture unique to the snow country.

In this region, it is said that in the winter season, it was so cold that even pickles, a preserved food, would freeze, and baking pickles for the purpose of thawing them out was the birth of Tsukeyaki. Currently, "Aim! Under the slogan "Soul Food of Aki Ota Town "," the entire town is making a solitary effort to promote this tsukeyaki food culture. We want to support them. Please visit Aki Ota Town and try the actual Tsukeyaki.

Japanese Restaurant Raiyume

A typical restaurant where you can eat Tsukeyaki is "Japanese Restaurant Raimu ". This restaurant is located at a roadside station near the Togouchi IC of the Chugoku Expressway. The signature menu "Teppan Pickles Salt Yakisoba "is a relatively light tasting salt yakisoba, and the main ingredient is old pickled Chinese cabbage, and the pickles are a nice accent, definitely a habit-forming dish.

Wine Pot

Bishazake-nabe is a local nabe made with plenty of sake, which is synonymous with Higashi-Hiroshima, and is said to have originated in Higashi-Hiroshima. As for the origin of the dish, it is said to have originated in Saijo Town in Higashi-Hiroshima, a town famous for sake brewing, where it was eaten as a "makana-meshi "to fill one's stomach in between brewing sake.

It's a nabe served with a simple seasoning of sake. "I'm not a fan of sake, so I can't do nabe that uses sake all over the place! "Don't worry if you think "I'm not good with sake, I can't do a nabe that uses a lot of sake! The alcohol content is removed by heating it thoroughly, so this nabe can be enjoyed by people of all ages, not just those who can't handle sake. This local gourmet dish is also famous for being served at "Sake Festival ", a traditional event held in Higashi-Hiroshima every October. When you come to Hiroshima, why don't you try this sake nabe to warm your body and soul?

Francesca's House

There are several places where you can enjoy sake nabe not only in Saijo but also in Hiroshima City, but I think the best place to try it is BUTSURANSHIYA (Franceya), which offers "the original sake nabe ". BUTSURANSIYA is a sake dining restaurant near Saijo Station under the direct management of "Kamotsuru Sake Brewery ", where you can experience the authentic taste of the exceptional sake hot pot that is said to have originated from Kamotsuru. In addition to sake nabe, the restaurant also offers many other exquisite dishes such as "Hiroshima beef cheek stew "using sake and red wine.
